Asus VG236H with 120 Hz refresh rate
Asus VG236H is a 23 inch computer monitor having a refresh rate of 120 Hz which means this panel is compatible with Nvidia 3D Vision Kit. This monitor has plenty of ergonomic options and also DVI and HDMI ports. Cost of this product is $500 along with the 3D vision kit (without it, the price is $340). I won’t say that this is an expensive computer display, especially with the features that it offers. But for $30 less, there is the tempting Samsung PX2370 which is a much better performer along with some good OSD options. One thing that bothered me about the Asus VG236H is the green tint. You can make some adjustments to get rid of it but it is a chore. Performance of the monitor too is far from perfect. I would recommend this panel only if ergonomic options and 120 Hz refresh rate matter a lot to you.
Asus VG236H is a glossy monitor with a piano reflective black front body. On the back, it is all plain matte. The screen of the monitor is quite glossy; I could see my face easily in it, just like a mirror. The footstand is typical of a computer monitor and it has diameter of 9.75 inches. The stand does give some stability to the monitor when you knock it from the sides but it makes a lot of noise.

Asus VG236H comes with a five degree back tilt, height adjustment, and panel swiveling. The only thing that’s missing is the pivot adjustment. I don’t think that is a deal breaker because pivot feature is used only by professionals. The distance from the bottom of the monitor to the desk is 2.6 inches at the lowest height and the highest, it is 6.8 inches. The width of the bezel is 0.75 inch and the panels depth is 1.25 inches. However, if you calculate the depth along with the panel’s connection options and ventilation system the depth rises to 2.5 inches.
Connection options on the Asus VG236H DVI, HDMI and Component connection. These connections are all located on the back and they face down. The monitor has height adjustment capability and this makes it easy to access the connection panel. The OSD array has five buttons and it is located on the bezel’s right. The buttons are fairly wide and give good tactile feedback when pushed.
The OSD buttons of the Asus VG236H include Up/Down button, preset cycle button and Source button. The Up and Down direction buttons can be used to adjust the Brightness and Contrast. It is easy to navigate the OSD array but it took me some time to get used to the Menu button which was to be used for the ‘Enter’ function. The preset modes include Scenery, Night View, Game, Standard and Theater. The presets just change the brightness and color temperature of the display. There are additional color preset options like SRGB, Warm, Normal, Cool and User Mode. The latter lets you play around with the RGB values manually. Finally, there is the ‘Skin Tone’ which gives you Normal, Reddish and Bluish setting.
