ViewSonic VP2365wb – full HD – IPS panel

Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:

Lower-viewing angle is great and so is the picture quality.

Thumbs Down:

The monitor wobbles a lot when pulled at maximum height, the brightness level is low and the monitor lacks an HDMI connection.

The Whiz Kid Speaks:

VP2365wb is an IPS panel, which is 21.6 inch wide, 9.8 inches deep, 17 inches high and weighs about 15 lbs. Image aspect ratio is 16:9, image contrast ratio is 1000:1, image brightness is 300 cd/m2, maximum vertical viewing angle is 178 degrees and maximum horizontal viewing angle is 178 degrees.

Diagonally the panel is 23 inches big, it is a widescreen display with native resolution of 1920×1080. Response time is 14 ms, maximum sync rate is 75HzX82Hz, adjustments/controls include H/V position, Brightness, Sharpness, H/V size, Contrast. The panel has a backlight life of 50,000 hours, display positions adjustments include pivot, swivel, height and tilt. Connections on the panel include AC power input, D-Sub, USB, DVI-Digital, Analog RGB.

Interfaces on the panel include 4 x Hi-Speed USB downstream – 4 pin USB Type A, Hi-Speed USB upstream – 4 pin USB Type B, DVI-D – 24 pin digital DVI, VGA – 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15). The monitor comes with cables for USB, DVI cable and VGA cable. The ViewSonic gives VP2365wb a three year warranty.

Razzle Dazzle:

VP 2365wb has typical monitor LCD looks. This doesn’t mean that it looks boring it just doesn’t look much different from other models. It has black chassis which feels fragile and hollow when compared to other panels from Samsung and Dell.

Inside Dope:

Price wise, we thought the VP2365wb was a bit costly. You will have to pay about $350 if you purchase online. At such a price you can get an E-IPS panel, 23 inch in size with about 5 USB ports and better performance. We were disappointed that this panel didn’t have HDMI connectivity, something that is a must for best quality videos. Behind the panel it is black, smooth, matte plastic and has a the logo of the manufacturer etched on to it.
Viewsonic vp2365wb review

The stand of the panel has a radius of 4.5 inches. If you pull the monitor up to the maximum height, it wobbles quite a lot and will easily fall down if you hit it hard enough. Be care full with this monitor if you have pets or kids in your house. However at the lowest height the wobbling is reduced and surely won’t topple down.

The panel can tilt back at an angle of 20 degrees and will swivel at 360 degrees. You can also remove the stand from the monitor and mount it on a wall. You can also pivot the panel 90 degrees for portrait mode.

As mentioned earlier, there is no HDMI port and all you get is DVI and VGA connectivity. However there are five USB ports which you will have to access by pivoting the panel.

For onscreen display there are five buttons on the screen one of them being the power button. One button brings up the on screen display (OSD), the up and down navigation buttons are taken care by the third and the fourth buttons respectively, the second button relates to the source select and enter button. You can adjust color, contrast and brightness on the OSD. The color temperature options include 9300k, 7500k, 6500k and 5000k and a sRGB option with an option for user color with which you can change blue, red and green values. There are three modes of standard, converse and optimize for eco-sensitive people. These modes simply adjust the brightness level and thus you can save on the panel’s energy consumption.

The monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:9 which gives you a full HD native resolution of 1920X1080 pixels. Monitors made for movie viewing are moving from 16:10 to 16:9 as the latter ratio provides better movie experience.

We tested the panel for performance and were impressed with the color vibrancy. We played some HD movies on the monitor, the color representation was good but the monitor is nowhere close to XL2370 from Samsung. Games on the panel were great; we tested World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament. Quality is awesome as long as you have a good graphic card but again this unit fell short of XL2370 in color representation.

You usually view a monitor from the front. Most panels are made to be viewed from the front and hence TN panels are popular among the monitors. However picture isn’t clear when seen from the sides in a TN panel. With the IPS panels this problem doesn’t exist, the picture is much clearer and the darkness is much less in IPS panels as compared to TN monitors. VP2365wb is a IPS panel and we were fully satisfied with the video quality, the picture could be seen clearly from the sides or from below quite clearly.

The monitor comes with a three warranty which covers backlight, labor and parts. The company also gives you e-mail based support and a toll free 24-7 helpline. We would have also liked a web-chat help like other manufacturers. Visit the manufacturers’ website for reference material and drivers.

Nitty Gritty:

If you are looking for a good monitor with similar specs, we would recommend the Dell SP2309W or Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 which perform better, have the same 16:9 aspect ratio and give the same full HD native resolution. This monitor is good but when you get better quality at same price why would you buy this product?
